Wrx Power Steering Rack Leak

Wrx power steering rack leak.

Power steering sometimes stops working without the belt squeal. I believe i ve located the leak and want opinions on what could be the culprit. I was told the power steering rack needs to be replaced 1200. We take 5 8 off each inner and outer it.

Looks like this is a problem with wrx s and sti s. A little troubleshooting and i discovered the source the leak is originating from the input shaft coming into the rack and pinion gearbox. The 2015 sti has the quickest steering ratio of any subaru product to date it s 13 1 compared to 15 1 on older wrx and sti models. Noticed more fluid leaking so took it to the dealership yesterday.

My 2009 wrx started leaking power steering fluid a couple of months ago at almost 70k miles. Sometimes on start sometimes when letting off the throttle sometimes when turn hard to either side. On narrow body 2008 2010 wrx models you will have to shorten the tie rod ends. Had the lines replaced and was ok until a week or so ago.

This rack will bolt directly in to any 2008 2014 wrx or sti. I drive a 2009 wrx no mods and noticed that i was leaking power steering fluid recently. Everybody just replaces the entire rack but i wanted to see if i could fix it with.
